What is fiber therapy?Fiber therapy is a convenient and effective way for you to boost your fiber intake in order to become regular.

There are differences in the fiber therapies available to you. Be sure to consider the following:

* A therapeutic fiber may be just as effective in helping you to stay regular as high fiber foods, but the fact is, most of us just don't get enough fiber from our diets alone.
* A therapeutic fiber can be a safe and easy way to stay regular.
* A soluble fiber may help ensure that you get enough fiber each day.
* A therapeutic fiber only works if you're willing to stick with it - so taste does matter.

The fiber therapy of Citrucel with SmartFiber acts just like natural fiber. Formulated from an ultra-pure plant, Citrucel is 100% soluble. Citrucel with SmartFiber works with your body to help restore and maintain regularity. You get all the benefits of fiber without bloating or excess gas*.

How do I know if I am getting enough fiber? The American Dietetic Association recommends eating between 21 to 38 grams of fiber a day. You may be surprised to learn that most of us get only 10 to 15 grams of fiber daily. Use our fiber calculator to determine your daily intake.

There are many types of high fiber foods available. You'll find the highest fiber content in foods like beans, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. It is important to try to include more of these foods in your daily diet. But even so, it's sometimes difficult to get all the fiber you need from your diet. That is why many doctors and healthcare professionals recommend Citrucel with SmartFiber.

What is SmartFiber? SmartFiber is derived from cellulose which occurs naturally in plants and is the most abundant, renewable fiber on earth. With nature at its core, SmartFiber is designed to be less harsh on your system. So it doesn't cause excess gas and bloating.* And SmartFiber is smart - because it works. SmartFiber is proven to help restore and maintain regularity. SmartFiber is 0% fermentable, so unlike psyllium, SmartFiber cannot, will not cause excess gas or bloating. Now that is SmartFiber!

How much fiber is in one dose of Citrucel with SmartFiber? All of our Citrucel with SmartFiber powder products (Regular Orange, Sugar-Free Orange) contain two grams of methylcellulose (soluble fiber) per dose.

Citrucel with SmartFiber caplets contain one gram of methylcellulose, in each two-caplet dose. In other words, you will need to take four caplets to achieve the same amount of fiber that is in one scoop of Citrucel with SmartFiber powder.

What is the difference between the psyllium fiber in Metamucil and the SmartFiber in Citrucel with SmartFiber? Fiber is the non-digestible portion of plant foods that plays a critical role in digestion. There are two different categories that all fiber products fall into: 1) soluble or insoluble, and 2) fermentable or non-fermentable.

Soluble fiber dissolves in water, whereas insoluble fiber does not. The fiber in Citrucel with SmartFiber is 100% soluble; the psyllium fiber in Metamucil is not 100% soluble.

Citrucel with SmartFiber contains only 100% non-fermentable fiber, so none of it ferments to cause excess gas like the fermentable fiber in Metamucil. This is based on laboratory tests. Results may vary in humans.

How does the fiber in Citrucel with SmartFiber work? Fiber, which is not digested in the body, can absorb up to 30 times its own weight in water, so that material in the digestive tract can take on bulk and a soft texture as it passes through the body. Fiber helps to prevent stools from becoming excessively loose, or dry and hard. If you suffer from diarrhea, the bulk that fiber creates may lead to larger stools and help "slow you down." Bulkier stools are eliminated more easily than hard, pellet-like stools. So, if you suffer from constipation, fiber may help "speed you up." Fiber regulates – naturally.

Can I mix Citrucel with SmartFiber in something other than water? Citrucel with SmartFiber can be mixed with water or juice provided you use 8 ounces of a cold liquid. Cold liquid is important for dispersion. It is best to avoid mixing Citrucel with SmartFiber into milk and carbonated beverages. Citrucel with SmartFiber will release the carbonation too fast, and the drink will "erupt" overflow the glass. We do not recommend mixing Citrucel with SmartFiber with hot beverages; some of the active ingredients may come out of solution causing you to not get a full dose. It will not mix properly and will settle out unless you keep stirring it. Also, the product may gel in hot liquids.

How do I separate taking Citrucel with SmartFiber from my other medications? We ask that you speak to your physician or pharmacist about the advisability of taking Citrucel with SmartFiber while you're taking other medications.

Since these medical professionals are aware of the properties and the action of the medications you're already on, as well as your personal medical history, they should be able to guide you on the advisability of taking Citrucel with SmartFiber along with medications.

How do Citrucel with SmartFiber caplets compare to the powder in their fiber content? Each two-caplet dose of Citrucel with SmartFiber caplets contains one gram of methylcellulose. This compares to two grams of Citrucel with SmartFiber in each one-scoop dose. In other words, you will need to take four caplets to get the same amount of fiber that is in one scoop Citrucel with SmartFiber powder. Four caplets can be taken at the same time. We recommend that you drink 8 oz. of liquid with each dose of 2-4 caplets.

The easy-to-swallow caplets contain the same great fiber Citrucel with SmartFiber powder and won’t cause excess gas like the fiber in other products. The caplets are an easy and convenient way to promote and maintain regularity with no mixing and no mess.

How close can the Caplet doses be taken? How long must I wait between doses? Can you crush and/or cut the caplet in half if it is too large to swallow? Can I take a broken caplet? Yes, you may take a broken caplet. If swallowing the caplet is difficult, we recommend that you try our Citrucel with SmartFiber powder products. If you still desire to use the Caplets, we recommend that you cut or break the caplets in half and swallow, rather than crush them.

Can I chew the caplet or dissolve the Citrucel with SmartFiber caplet in water or food? No. The caplet is meant to be swallowed intact. It should not be chewed, dissolved in water or mixed with food. If it is too large, you can break it in half and swallow the two pieces.
